Shanghai University Ranking: Six Austrian universities among the top 500

The best national result was again achieved by the University of Vienna, which comes in the rank group 151-200.

Universities from the USA and Great Britain are once again dominating the newly published "Shanghai Academic Ranking of World Universities". The best 18 universities are from these two countries. From Austria, six universities made it into the ranking, two more than in the previous year.

National result

The only native university in the top 200 is the University of Vienna in the rank group 151-200 (from place 101 onwards, the number is increased only in 50-s increments, from place 201 in 100-s increments), their placement is unchanged from the previous year. The University of Innsbruck (2017: 151-200) slipped slightly and is now ranked 201-300. The Medical University of Vienna will be located in this group - unchanged from the previous year. The Technical University (TU) Vienna, which has advanced from places 401-500 into group 301-400, has improved. The Medical University of Innsbruck and the University of Graz, which have made it into the 401-500 rankings and have not been among the top 500 in the past two years, have also risen. As a "top 500 candidates", the ranking lists universities in the 501-1000 places. From Austria there are the University of Medicine Graz (501-600), the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna (601-700), the Graz University of Technology (801-900), the University of Linz and the University of Salzburg (both 901-1000).
