University of Salzburg introduces new Major–Minor Bachelor’s study model

From the winter semester 2026/27, students will be able to design their bachelor’s degree individually within the flexible Major–Minor study model.

With the newly introduced Major–Minor study model, prospective students at the University of Salzburg will have the opportunity to develop interdisciplinary competencies as part of their degree programme starting in the winter semester.

Students choose a major subject that allows for in-depth study in their selected field. In addition, they can either combine this with a minor subject that provides foundational knowledge in another discipline, or with two competence modules that offer subject-specific or interdisciplinary basic skills in selected thematic areas.

By autumn 2026, around one third of bachelor’s degree programmes at the University of Salzburg will already be available in the flexible Major–Minor model. By autumn 2027, this proportion is expected to increase to half of all bachelor’s programmes.

Registration for Major–Minor bachelor’s programmes will be possible from early July 2026.
