With the RISC European College, Johannes Kepler University (JKU) Linz is expanding its educational offer in mathematically grounded artificial intelligence. The programme is being developed through the JKU Research Institute for Symbolic Computation (RISC) in Hagenberg, with support from the state of Upper Austria.
The two-year master’s programme is taught entirely in English and forms part of the mathematics degree programme. It is aimed at international graduates in mathematics and computer science. Key areas include mathematical modelling, theoretical foundations, and linking fundamental research with applications in science and industry. The curriculum also addresses scientific responsibility, European values and societal issues.
The RISC European College is currently being established. Initially, seven to nine scholarships will be awarded to international master’s students; after studies begin in autumn, this number is expected to grow gradually to around 15, with up to eight additional scholarships planned from 2027.
